Anytime Storage Advice
Preparing
- Check your current insurance. If it doesn't cover your stored items, purchase renter's insurance.
- When deciding on your unit size, allow for ventilation space between the walls and ceiling.
- Protect your furniture with a good polish.
- Clean all appliances.
- Drain, clean, and grease outdoor equipment,
tools, etc.
- Pack all breakables in bubble wrap or packing paper.
- Use crumpled newspaper or plastic bags to fill in spaces in boxes.
- Pack boxes tightly to minimize shifting of their contents.
- Label each box and keep an inventory of its contents.
Storing
- Use unattached shelving for organization.
- Use wooden pallets to keep items off the floor.
- Place items that you will need to access frequently toward the front.
- If space allows, store couches on end and stack chairs seat to seat
- Use blankets, sheets, or moving pads to protect items
- Store appliances with their doors slightly open.
- Store lightweight items inside appliances.
- Store paintings and mirrors on end.
Following Up
- Check on your unit frequently.
- Report
- Suspicious activity
- Malfunctioning equipment
- Damage
- Signs of pests

Leaving the State or Country
- Name one or more emergency and/or trusted contacts.
- Give your key and the gate code to a trusted contact.
- Ask your trusted contact(s) to check your unit frequently.
- Update your lease agreement with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of your trusted contacts.
